Clearly they are not.

Those who think otherwise should have both shoved where the sun don't shine!

Comics, Fan Art and other Game and Music related funness in my Gallery!

The only difference is what country they're from. Manga are Japanese comics.

Looks like someone's set their phaser to stunning!

I'm gonna have to agree with Heiderich on this one. They're comics just with different styles.

It's just easier to say "manga" around others because that lets them know I have more interest in Japanese stuff than American comics. :P

The voices in my head tell me you're the weird one.

Lol, I have to call them comics to my Dad. He can't grasp the word manga, nor the concept that they aren't really meant to be funny.

They are the same. They're both drawn with dialog or narration inserted into them to tell a story, a series of events, or a joke. The only difference is the region and overall style that the region uses.

Comics conjure images of flimsy magazine style booklets, with American cartoons. Manga are bound books with Japanese style art.

Just looking at comics and manga you can tell they're the same. If I drew a stick man with a speech bubble next to it, would I be able to call that manga?

Nope. I disagree. Manga and comics are VERY different. Not in the stle they're drawn, but in the way they're bound, set out, the audiances they're aimed at, the stories they tell. They're all very much different. You can NOT look at a comic and think it's a manga, and vice versa. I would never EVER call, say, Fruits Basket a comic, because it's not that. I'll never call Batman a manga. Because it's clearly not.

And as a good friend just told me; "Comics conjure images of flimsy magazine style booklets, with American cartoons. Manga are bound books with Japanese style art." She puts it so much simpler than I do!
